Emisphere have announced the publication of a study assessing the oral delivery of GLP-1 and PYY3-36 using Emisphere’s proprietary delivery technology. The study showed that the peptides could be delivered orally in humans with safety and efficiency.

Novo Nordisk have submitted a new drug application to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan for the approval of liraglutide, a once-daily human GLP-1 analogue, for the treatment of people with type 2 diabetes. The drug is under review in the US and EU.

Emisphere have released Phase I data from a clinical study assessing the oral delivery of GLP-1 peptide. The delivery agent, SNAC, allowed for rapid oral absorption of GLP-1.

Emisphere and Novo Nordisk have entered in to an agreement to collaborate on oral GLP-1 receptor agonists for Diabetes. Emisphere’s will apply its eligen(R) technology to Novo Nordisk’s drug candidates.

Data presented at the ADA meeting show that Roche and Ipsen’s GLP-1 analog taspoglutide demonstrates efficacy and is well tolerated in patients with type 2 diabetes. The drug is now moving in to Phase III trials.
